Sealing

Sandstone is a natural product that does not require sealing in all situations, although we do recommend all ground applications are sealed.   SAI Sandstone is a natural product, it is resilient to most climatic conditions, and to the discolouration that can occur in many man-made products which often contain oxides and other additives.  But to seal the stone around a salt water pool is a must.

The purpose of sealer is to prevent penetration and absorption of water and other mediums from entering the sandstone.  Without sealer, penetration will occur, and depending on the medium, may result in staining or dampness.

As there are numerous types of sealers available, including:
• Coat sealers,
• Penetrating sealers,
• Salt resistant sealers typically used for swimming pool surrounds,
• Sealers to enhance colour

Before selecting your sealer you will  need to consider the situation where your SAI Sandstone will be used, as well as the colour and surface finish you want to achieve. We recommend testing you preferred sealant on a sample piece, or a left over before making your final decision.

Circumstances where sealer may not be required vary. For example some water feature walls need to be sealed, while others don’t.  As there are numerous variables, please contact our technical department on 1300 855851 who will be able to advise you on your particular situation.
